Yes, there will be a Salado Eggfest 2017 and it will be held March 11, 2017.

The Latest on the Salado Eggfest 2016
Mickey announced last year that it was his last year to organize the Salado Eggfest which he started years ago. We knew there would be changes as someone else took on the responsibility and burden of organizing it and thought we could adjust to them.
Meanwhile, there was a tragic accident that resulted in the death of one of the key players and co-owners of The Inn on the Creek, the host B&B and primary site for pre and post Eggfest parties.
Add to that the less than enthusiastic attitude of the new manager at the host dealer, and it was looking like the Salado Eggfest would be discontinued.
But earlier today I learned that the Salado Eggfest will go on. Will at Inn on the Creek, and Ace Hardware of Salado will make it happen.

A number of folks have asked if there was going to be a 2016 Salado Eggfest now that Mickey has stopped organizing it. I don't know.
No one has contacted me about a firm date or what kind of agenda, or any of the many details necessary for me to report them here.

The 2015 Salado Eggfest Was Fantastic
The 2015 Salado Eggfest is now History
From all the comments I've heard and read, it was the best one yet. Although I missed most of it due to a really bad cold, I did get to see a lot of people and even cooked for a couple of hours, but I had to call it a day and return to my hotel room.
The weather was perfect and we had a great turnout, probably in excess of 400. I heard many reports that the food was outstanding.
Mickey announced that this would be his last year to organize the Salado Eggfest. Now that he's retired he wants a less complicated life. He has certainly earned it and has done a wonderful job of making it one of the top Eggfests in the Country.
I'm sure the name of the person assuming the job of managing the Eggfest will be announced soon and I will post it here. Hayden Coburn, Store Manager at Keith Ace Hardware, the Host Dealer, is the likely person but we'll have to wait to see. This was his first Eggfest and he sure appeared to be enjoying it.
And if tradition holds true for the Salado Eggfest date for 2016, it will likely be either March 12th or March 19th.

The final event of the day was to give away two Mini-Max Big Green Eggs as door prizes.
Salado was the very first Eggfest in the country to give away Mini-Max's as a door prizes. They were won by two very lucky people. I'm sure they will thank their lucky stars for coming.

Salado 2014
Salado 2014 was a really great time
We expected 300 to 400 Attendees and we were not disappointed.
The weather was great, well except for a short rain shower, and the temperature was perfect. We expect the same or better for 2015.
So, if you're either thinking about coming to Salado, or
definitely coming to Salado, now's as good'a time as any to pen a reminder to Register sometime in January or February 2015. And as always, a team (namely me) will be standing
by to receive and process your registrations.
Registering now will save you and us a lot of time later.

Countdown to Salado
It's Official. March 15, 2014 at Pace Park is the approved date and place of the next Salado Eggfest.
More news will be forthcoming about hotel and B&B rooms, door prizes, registration, etc, but we've still got a few days to work out the details. Those days go quickly too.
The best thing is it's still free to all.
And we will have four Mini Eggs and maybe some other goodies going home with someone.
Again, it's not too early to start thinking about what you plan to cook or where you will spend the weekend: hotel or B&B or RV Park. Remember also, that Salado has many wonderful shops and restaurants to visit while you're in town.
I know March 15th is the Ides of March, and some of you will be drawn to wearing your togas, but it is also St. Patrick's Day Weekend and perfect for wearing your kilt or Irish Green. Of course, other forms of dress are the accepted norm, but where's the fun in being normal???

Salado Eggfest 2013 Was Wonderful - Again...
This was the third Salado Eggfest and it was the best yet. The crowd was larger, the weather better, the food tastier, the park prettier, and the Village of Salado more welcoming.
Mickey has become a Master at holding Eggfests, and Russ and his crew at Keith Ace Hardware did an outstanding job of setting up the Demo Eggs for the Cooks, and operating the Big Green Egg Accessory Store.
The Eggfest, the Meet & Greet party Friday night and the After Party Saturday night went off without a hitch.
And what can I say about the Cooks... You guys were fantastic! Not only were there lots of simple but tasty dishes, there were a lot of very creative dishes that one would not expect to see outside a professional kitchen. We hope to gather recipes from everyone and post them on this site for all to try.
I believe this may be a first for any Eggfest, but we actually had some Tasters fly in by helicopter. And yes, it was Mickey who made the arrangements for where they could land near the Park. Very cool...
Of course, being St. Patrick's Day weekend and Salado being a host town for a major Scottish Clan Gathering each year, a few of us wore our kilts and Irish Green.
And here's a wee bit of news: Our blog site has now grown to 27,000 hits from almost 50 countries. People around the world are taking a close look at what we Eggheads do for entertainment. And they keep coming back for more. Don't you just love being part of it all...
I tried to capture the moment by collecting all the photos I could and assemble them into a video which I posted on YouTube. Take a look...

Salado Eggfest 2013 Set For March 16th
Once again, Mickey performed his magic before the Village Leaders and received their blessing for us to hold our Salado Eggfest in Pace Park at the pavilion on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
Of course, as we all know, the Eggfest will unofficially begin on Friday the 15th for many as they arrive from points all over the country, even just down the road. They will want to get themselves established, tour the Village and then join with others for a few hours at what promises to be a very nice Pre-Fest party. Details will be forthcoming but you can bet there will be food and drink. I think Mickey made it a rule...
So mark your calendars for the weekend of March 15th - 17th and start thinking about where you will stay, what you will cook, what to bring and even who to bring with you. You know it will be a lot of fun.
Oh, and if you are so inclined, St. Patrick's Green and Kilts are welcome dress, no matter that you are not the least bit Celtic.

Salado Eggfest 2013 Date Almost Set
Mickey has a lot to do before the official date of the next Salado Eggfest is confirmed, but it appears that March 16, 2013 is the best date. It's the same weekend as St Patrick's Day, so that should work out perfectly for those of us who want to scoot around in Kilts like last year.

It's Time To Start Getting Ready For The Salado Eggfest
We only have a few weeks before the Salado Eggfest, so it's time for us to start the wheels turning. That means arranging for the Park in Salado, arranging for tables and chairs, arranging for door prizes and a thousand other things that need to be done to make sure it will be another fun-filled weekend for everyone who attends.
Fortunately, Mickey has already done most of the leg work but we still need for attendees to make plans and to let us know you're coming, and whether or not you will be cooking. We will be asking for registration in advance like last year because it really makes it a lot easier on everyone involved in doing the planning and setup. The registration form is below.
Meanwhile, with a little luck and some finger-crossing, we should have great weather. The Farmer's Almanac isn't being real specific but apparently the weather patterns lean toward warmer and dryer than in decades past. Let's hope it's not too dry like 2011.
Anyway, last year's "Gathering" was great and we are looking forward to this one being even better. '
Oh by the way, over thirty countries have checked out our web site and continue to do so on a daily basis. We've had well over 10,000 hits from people wanting to know "What the heck is going on in Salado that smells so good."

It's Official - March 17, 2012 for Salado Eggfest
We're set for March 17th as the next Salado Eggfest. Yes, Eggfest! We changed the name from 'Gathering' to 'Eggfest' because we obviously grew out of the 'Gathering' stage at the 2011 event.
We'll be sending out notices as to pre-registering, lodging, door prizes and demo Egg purchases as soon as we get the information together. It may take a few weeks.

It isn't set in stone yet but Mickey decided that March 17, 2012 would be the best date for the next Salado Egghead Gathering.
He still has to meet with the Board of Aldermen on July 7th to officially request the use of the Park and waver of fees, as well as a waver of the ban on alcohol.
Given the nice turnout and promotion of the Village of Salado last year, I'm pretty sure we can swing it for that date.
I'm trying to decide whether to start a new blog for this event, or even set up a permanent web site. It takes a bit of effort do keep a site up to date and a lot of effort to create a new one. But for now, I will use this site as a place to announce important information.

Salado - The Movie
I'm sure all of you are thinking, "When is the movie coming out?" But I had a couple of excuses: one, I'm basically lazy, and two, I'm a bit dim-witted. Just kidding about the "lazy" part.
And we had to get ready to go to Hawaii.
And then I apparently maxed out the capability of my "latest technology" computer.
But I pressed on and forced it to come together, mostly because a few of you will be in Athens next weekend and asking "Where's the Movie?"

Salado Recipes
A couple of weeks ago I sent emails to all registered cooks and requested they provide me with the recipes along with any photos of all the items they cooked in Salado. My intention is to create a Recipe Book to be included in this blog. That way, anyone wishing to obtain the recipe of their favorite snacks need only to check the blog. I thought what better way to recognize the efforts of all the cooks than to pass on their recipes.
In order to receive the recipes in a timely manner, I bestowed the following 'blessing' on those who hesitated to send them by April 14th. "If you fail to do so, may the smell of a thousand camels enter your nostrils and remain there until you abandon your stalling tactics."
Well, it's now April 16th and I only have a few recipes. Perhaps enough to get it started but certainly not fully reflective of all those outstanding dishes prepared on the Big Green Eggs.
I suspect those who did not submit their recipes are probably 'enjoying' the smell of a thousand camels wherever they go in their busy schedules.
The curse can be lifted only by sending the recipes. Please do so soon or the camel herd will increase in size and pungency. Send to springchicketexas@comcast.net.

Salado Egghead Gathering 2011 Is Over - And What A Time It Was
Mickey did good.

The Countdown to Salado Continues
Well, the counting is almost over. It looks like there’s going to be an Egghead Gathering. Can’t stop it from happening now because it’s just 1 day from now. Lots of folks are really getting Eggcited.
As of now, we have 180 registered. Unfortunately, three of them have notified us that they can’t come. Something to do with work.
There are 35 who registered to cook, and a total of 35 Eggs (10 Demos and 25 personal Eggs) to cook on (assuming everyone who said they would is bringing their Eggs). I’m sure the food they cook will be delicious.
Spring Hen and I are 90% packed and 85% loaded. It won’t take long to do the rest. We hope to arrive in Salado shortly after Noon on Friday. We first want to swing by the Park for a look-see to make sure it’s ready for us. Then check in with Mickey, but after that we’ll be available for Meet’n and Greet’n and Midnight Sleep’n.
If you arrive in town early enough you might swing by Keith Ace Hardware in Salado and introduce yourself. They are the new BGE dealer in town and are serving as Host Dealer. They are also donating one of the three Mini Eggs we’re giving away in the drawing.
Be sure to stop by the Check-In / Registration desk when you arrive at the Pace Park pavilion. That’s where you will receive your name badge and tickets for the drawing. Everyone must have a name badge. There are over 3,000 visitors expected in Salado while we’re there. Most will be at the other events, but some may smell the smoke and want to come see what’s going on. I think it’s safe to say, we can’t handle that many people asking “What are y’all doing?” and “What’s that green thing?” and “Can I have some?” There are some great door prizes.
I’ll be taking photos and video of the event so keep your smiles on when I’m around. And if you take some good photos, by all means share them with us. We Eggheads love pictures.
By the way, we’ve now had 8,330 hits on our blog. And we thought 100 hits would be a really big deal…
